THINGS WE CARRY by Celia Pym

L.F. Markey is proud to present 'Things We Carry', an exhibition of mended paper bags, collected from Celia’s daily life. Originally used to carry everything from pastries and bread to parsley and buttons, the bags have been torn and worn through use, then carefully darned and patched back together. Their repair celebrates these everyday objects, giving new life to a material designed to be discarded.
'Things We Carry' will showing at L.F. Markey, 50 Dalston Lane, E8 3AH from 3- 17 November.
About Celia Pym:
She is a London-based artist whose practice has focused on mending since 2007. Her work explores wear, damage and repairs as acts of care. She has exhibited at the V&A, Loewe Craft Prize and internationally, and is a Lecturer in Textiles at the Royal College of Art. She is the author of 2 books, On Mending (2022) and SOCKS - Imaginative Repair (2026) published by Quickthorn
MENDING TEXTILES WORKSHOP WITH CELIA PYM
Explore the art of mending knitted and wool textiles with artist Celia Pym at the L.F. Markey store. Learn woven darning techniques suitable for knitwear, discover artists working with repair, and explore the care and attention involved in giving worn textiles a new life.
Bring a sweater, socks or wool accessory with holes or damage to work on. Or come as you are – samples to practice on will be available. All materials provided. No previous experience necessary.

CREATE YOUR OWN BESPOKE FRAGRANCE WITH MAYA NJIE
We are excited to announce that Maya Njie's perfume-blending workshop will be returning to the L.F.Markey store on Sunday 1 November 2026!
Join us for a relaxed, intimate session where guests explore a range of high-quality perfumery materials and develop their own scent. The notes used span across citrus, spices, fruits, florals, amber, woods, resins and musk. It's a creative way to put your own stamp on how you wear your very own bespoke scent. Each attendee will leave with a 20ml fragrance, a 7.5ml travel vial, a box, and a personal formula booklet.
Suitable for all genders and no prior experience is required. Spaces are limited.
